In keeping with a common theme, the authors find the solvable Lie algebras, \(S\), whose nil radical, \(N\), is of a prescribed type. Here \(n\) is an integer \(> 2, N\) is isomorphic to a certain nilpotent subalgebra of the symplectic algebra \(sp(2n,F)\), where \(F\) is a field of characteristic not \(2\). Then \(\dim(S)\) is always less than or equal to \(\dim(N) + n\). Furthermore, \(S\) is isomorphic to the Borel subalgebra \(B\) of \(sp(2n,F)\) if and only if \(\dim(S)=\dim(N)+n\). Results on the derivations of \(N\).
