Let \(n_A\) be the multiplication by an integer \(n\) on a semi-abelian variety \(A\) defined over the field of all algebraic numbers and \(X\) be an algebraic subvariety of \(A\). Then there is an integer \(N\) such that, if the first \(N\) iterates of \(n_A\) map a point \(x\) into \(X\), then this is true for all iterates. The first result of the paper is that \(N\) can be chosen to be independent of the integer \(n\). The second theorem gives an explicit value for the number \(N\) in the special cases of an Abelian variety and an algebraic torus. This is an improvement of a result of Aliev and Smyth. The proof uses the effectivity result of the Mordell-Lang conjecture and a theorem of Crittenden and Vanden Eynden on arithmetic progressions.
