Let \(K\) be a compact subset of \({\mathbb R^d}\) and \(C(K)\) the family of continuous functions on \(K\). The authors studied different fractal and multifractal dimensions of functions in \(C(K)\) that are generic in the sense of prevalence. They first proved a number of general results, namely, for arbitrary ``dimension'' functions: \(\Delta: C(K) \rightarrow {\mathbb R}\) satisfying various natural scaling conditions, they obtained formulas for the ``dimension'' \(\Delta (f)\) of a prevalent function \(f\) in \(C(K)\). Then by applying these results to appropriate choices of \(\Delta\): They computed the (lower and upper) local dimension of a prevalent function \(f\) in \(C(K)\), the (lower or upper) Hölder exponent at a point \(x\) of a prevalent function \(f\) in \(C(K)\) and they computed the (lower or upper) Renyi dimension of a prevalent function \(f\) in \(C(K)\). In many cases, their results are very different from the corresponding results for continuous functions that are generic in the sense of Baire category.
