These are lecture notes of a minicourse by the author delivered in Dakar in May 2007. They introduce the basic concepts of symplectic topology: symplectic manifolds and the groups of symplectic and Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms, the flux homomorphism. Next the author discusses the Arnold Conjecture, symplectic capacities and the Hofer geometry. The notes also contain exercises.
