This paper considers smooth conjugations on connected, closed smooth manifolds, and the first result states that every orientable closed \(3\)-manifold \(M\) such that the first \(\mathbb{Z}\)-homology group contains no \(2\)-torsion can be realized as the fixed point space of a smooth conjugation on a closed simply connected spin \(6\)-manifold with free integral and zero odd cohomology. In [Math. Ann. 342, No. 2, 255--271 (2008; Zbl 1154.57034)] the author constructed \(6\)-dimensional manifolds with conjugations and obtained manifolds whose \(\mathbb{Z}_2\)-cohomology is concentrated in even degrees. Based on this construction, the following very interesting result is presented: ``Let \(X\) be a closed simply connected spin \(6\)-manifold with free and only even integral cohomology. Let \(M\) be a closed oriented \(3\)-manifold such that \(H_1(M;\mathbb{Z})\) contains no \(2\)-torsion, and such that there exists a ring isomorphism \(H^*(X;\mathbb{Z}_2) \longrightarrow H^*(M;\mathbb{Z}_2)\) dividing all degrees by \(2\). Then there exists a smooth conjugation on \(X\) with fixed point set \(M\).'' As a consequence it is deduced that certain \(6\)-manifolds considered by Puppe are not asymmetric, but admit conjugations.
