The author investigates indecomposable nonperfect groups and obtains a characterization of minimal non-(hypercentral by finite) groups. A group \(G\) is said to be indecomposable if any two proper subgroups generate a proper subgroup of \(G\), and is called decomposable otherwise. It is shown that an indecomposable solvable group is a locally finite \(p\)-group. Hypercentrality is a natural generalization of nilpotence. A group \(G\) is called hypercentral if it has an ascending series \[ 1=G_0<G_1<\cdots<G_\beta=G \] (\(\beta\) being some ordinal) such that \(G_\alpha\) is normal in \(G\) for \(\alpha\leq\beta\) and \(G_{\alpha+1}/G_\alpha\) is contained in the center of \(G/G_\alpha\). It is shown that a nonperfect indecomposable group \(G\) is a minimal non-(hypercentral by finite) group (that is, the group is non-(hypercentral by finite) but every proper subgroup is hypercentral by finite) if and only if it is a countable \(p\)-group with an infinite normal subgroup \(N\), not supplemented nontrivially in \(G\), such that the quotient \(G/N\) is a quasicyclic \(p\)-group, \(N^p\neq N\), and the quotient group \(G/G''\) is a minimal non-hypercentral group.
