Methods of optimization and systems analysis for problems of transcomputational complexity. (Q424645)

This book under review is devoted to the elucidation of scientific achievements of academician Volodymyr Sergiyovych Mikhalevich, a well-known Ukrainian scientist and educator, and his role in the development of modern informatics. Chapter 1 gives a general description of the life and scientific career of the V. S. Mikhalevich and his scientific and public activities. Chapter 2 is devoted to the investigation in optimization theory and system analysis, the development of newest computer technologies and computer complexes, creation of scientific bases for the solution of various problems of informatization in the fields of economy, medicine, and biology, design of complicated processes and objects, environmental research, and control over important objects. Optimization methods and problems of control over complicated processes are investigated, and a formalized description of important processes connected with mathematical modeling of complicated environmental phenomena, in particular, phenomena that require the investigation of soil media is given in Chapter 3. Important aspects of investigating complicated problems of transition economy, which are especially topical at the present time, are considered in the Chapter 4. In particular, problems of development of information technologies for the determination of ways of energy conservation in the economy of Ukraine. Results of investigations of problems of solving complicated combinatorial problems are analyzed in Chapter 5.
