The purpose of this work is to investigate the behavior of discrete dynamical systems in evolutionary (biological) games. Beforehand, it is far from obvious that the same relations can be found between properties of the discrete dynamical system (stability properties) and properties of the game (evolutionary stability) as is the case for continuous dynamical systems. With discrete systems one could expect chaotic behavior, and moreover the mathematics to deal with such systems is much less well developed. In spite of this, the author still establishes nice relations also in the discrete case, albeit sometimes based on simulation. The book consists of six chapters. Chapters 1 and 2 deal with games, evolutionary stable strategies, and continuous dynamics. Chapter 3 introduces discrete dynamic systems, and chapter 4 applies these to evolutionary games. Chapter 5 provides extensions to the case of infinite strategy spaces. Chapter 6 gives an overview of the monograph.
