This paper introduces a new structure in multidimensional mode conversion. The Dirac-bracket formalism has been recently studied in order to better understand the constrained Hamiltonian dynamics of fluids and plasmas. In this work, the authors first recall that the problem of linear mode conversion between two waves arises in many areas in physics. They present a brief introduction to Hamiltonian ray phase-space dynamics. They study the geometry of the (\(2n-2\))-dimensional conversion manifold, which naturally possesses a Dirac-bracket structure. Then, they introduce the conversion Dirac-bracket structure on the (\(2n-2\))-dimensional tangent plane and the orthogonal structure on its orthogonal 2-dimensional complement. Finally, they show how theses structures can be applied to mode conversion theory. Some recalls about Dirac structures are also given in an appendix.
