For each pair of non-zero real numbers \(q_1\) and \(q_2\), the author and \textit{S. D. Silvestrov} constructed a certain unital Banach \(*\)-algebra \({\mathcal C}_{q_1,q_2}\) [Math. Proc. R. Ir. Acad. 109A, No. 2, 163--186 (2009; Zbl 1210.46036)]. This algebra contains elements \(c_1\) and \(c_2\) which satisfy the \(*\)-algebraic \((q_1, q_2)\)-deformed Heisenberg-Lie commutation relations, i.e., \(c_1c_1^*-q_1c_1^* c_1 = c_2\) and \(q_2c_1c_2- c_2c_1 = 0\). (The author only considers Banach \(*\)-algebras with isometric involution). Moreover, \(\|c_1\|=1\) and \(\|c_2\|=1+|q_1|\), and \({\mathcal C}_{q_1,q_2}\) is universal in the sense that, whenever a unital Banach \(*\)-algebra \({\mathcal A}\) contains elements \(a_1\) and \(a_2\) with \(\|a_1\|\leq 1\) satisfying the \(*\)-algebraic \((q_1,q_2)\)-deformed Heisenberg-Lie commutation relations, then there exists a unique bounded unital \(*\)-homomorphism \(\phi: {\mathcal C}_{q_1,q_2}\to {\mathcal A}\) such that \(\phi(c_1) = a_1\) and \(\phi(c_2) = a_2\). In the article under review, the case \((q_1,q_2)=(-1,1)\) is considered. The author shows that the Banach \(*\)-algebra \({\mathcal C}_{-1,1}\) is very proper. That is, for all \(M\in {\mathbb N}\) and \(a_1,\dots, a_M\in {\mathcal C}_{-1,1}\), one can have \(\sum_{m=1}^M a_m^* a_m = 0\) only if \(a_1 = a_2 = \dots = a_M = 0\).
