Contractive maps on an open convex normal cone in a Banach space endowed with the Thompson metric (also called the part metric) are studied. The central result of the paper is the derivation of an explicit formula for the Lipschitz constant of a translation map \(x\mapsto x+a\) restricted to an interval \(\{x\in C: x\leq b\}\) in terms of \(a,b\) for a very general class of cones. The result applies to all normal cones in Banach spaces, in particular to open cones in the finite dimensional setting. The results are applied to Riccati equations, Stein-like equations and Ferrante-Levy equations to establish the existence, uniqueness and continuous dependence on parameters of positive definite solutions.
