Let \(f\) be a polynomial of \(n\) variables such that \(X:=\{f=0\}\subset\mathbb C^n\) has an isolated singularity at the origin. Let \(\mu\) and \(p_g\) be the Milnor number and geometric genus of the singularity \((X,o)\). Then Durfee's conjecture is formulated as \(\mu\geq n! p_g\) and has been proved in many special cases for \(n=3\). Assume that \(f\) is a weighted homogeneous polynomial and let \(v\) be the multiplicity of \((X,o)\). The third author conjectured that if \(p_g>0\), then \(\mu-p(v)\geq n! p_g\), where \(p(v)=(v-1)^n-v(v-1)\cdots (v-n+1)\), and the equality holds if and only if \(f\) is homogeneous. In this paper, the authors prove this conjecture for \(n=5\) by concrete computation.
