The authors develop some semi-discrete first order finite difference schemes for uni-dimensional nonlinear degenerate convection-diffusion equations. A numerical approximation of entropy solutions to degenerate parabolic equation is also worked out. Through a lengthy derivation, it is tried to establish that the difference between the approximate solution and the unique entropy solution converges at a rate \(\mathcal{O}(\Delta x^{1/11})\) where \(\Delta x\) is the spatial mesh size. For a linear diffusion, e.g., in case of viscous regularization, the convergence rate is \(\mathcal{O}(\Delta x^{1/2})\). Also, I found the numerical example in the paper not convincing of the convergence rate of \(\mathcal{O}(\Delta x^{1/11})\).
