Let \(t(n)\) denote the Hecke eigenvalues of a fixed Maass cusp form for \(\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{Z})\). The author shows (among other things) the bound \[ \sum_{f \sim F} \sum_{n \sim N} \Bigl| \sum_{l} t(n+l)t(n+l+f)W_n(l) \Bigr|^2 \ll (N^{3 }L^{-2} + N^{2 } + N L F)N^{\varepsilon} \] for \(1 \leq F \leq L \leq N^{1-\varepsilon}\) where \(W_n(l)\) is supported on \([L, 2L]\) and satisfies \(W^{(\nu)}_n(x) \ll L^{-\nu}\). Similar results, but without the term \(N^{3+\varepsilon}L^{-2}\) and without smoothing, have been obtained for eigenvalues of holomorphic cusp forms and the divisor function by the author in a related article. The method is based on a refined version of \textit{M. Jutila}'s circle method [Lond. Math. Soc. Lect. Note Ser. 237, 245--254 (1997; Zbl 0937.11048)], applied to the innermost sum.
