This volume deals only with the range and studentized range. So, e.g., the \(F\) test based on the ratio of two ranges is considered as a substitution for the conventional \(F\) test. The statements in this book are expressed in the ``language of significance''. It is mostly supposed that the sampled population is normally distributed, if it is not otherwise stated. The book contains for the ranges: tables characterizing the probability behaviour of the ratio of the ranges, tables for the range \(W\), tables of constants for constructing \(X\) and \(R\) charts, critical values of the distribution of \(V= (x_{(k)}- x_{(l)})/n\) (tests of homogeneity in the multinomial and multivariate hypergeometric distributions; \(x_{(\cdot)}\) are the order statistics). The tables for the studentized range are: probability integral \(P(Q,\nu,n)\), percentage points of the studentized range, critical values for the Duncan's multiple range test, comparison of type I--II--III error rates for multiple comparisons tests (MCT), sample sizes for MCTs with prescribed error rate, tables for the analysis of variance based on the studentized range, critical values for the discordancy test of a lower and upper outliers-pair. The mathematical theory connected with the tables, and the discussion of statistical methods and practical examples are given. The historical development of methods is described. The computation methods for the tables are not omitted.
