Let \(G\) be a group. A representation of a subgroup of \(G\) is called a subrepresentation of \(G\). Let \(F\) be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. A matrix group \(G\leq\text{GL}_n(F)\) has a submultiplicative spectrum if for each pair \(A,B\in G\) every eigenvalue of the product \(AB\) is equal to a product of an eigenvalue of \(A\) and an eigenvalue of \(B\). The purpose of the paper under review is to study abstract finite groups with the property that all of their subrepresentations have submultiplicative spectra. Such groups are necessarily nilpotent, and the authors thus focus on \(p\)-groups. \(p\)-groups with this property are regular. It is shown that a 2-group has this property if and only if it is Abelian, and for an odd prime \(p\), it is shown that all \(p\)-Abelian groups have the desired property (here a \(p\)-group is called \(p\)-Abelian if \((xy)^p=x^py^p\) for all elements \(x\), \(y\) of the group), in particular, all groups of exponent \(p\) have it. It is also shown that a 3-group or a metabelian \(p\)-group (\(p\geq 5\)) has the desired property if and only if it is \(V\)-regular (which means that any finite direct product of copies of \(G\) is regular).
