The author presents an example of a reflexive (reflexivity in the sense of Pontryagin-van Kampen's duality theory), pseudocompact, non-compact, monothetic group \(H\) such that the Pontryagin dual \(H^\wedge\) of \(H\) is precompact, connected, Baire, and admits a continuous isomorphism onto the circle group. In addition, the countably compact subsets of both groups \(H\) and \(H^\wedge\) are finite. Moreover, the author also poses the following two problems: (1) Does there exist in ZFC a countably precompact noncompact reflexive monothetic group \(H\) such that the dual group \(H^\wedge\) is precompact and Baire? (2) Characterize the class of (precompact) abelian groups \(G\) such that all countable subgroups of \((G^\wedge,\tau_p)\) are closed, where \(\tau_p\) is the topology of pointwise convergence on the elements of \(G\).
