The authors study the maximal possible number of invariant straight lines for a polynomial system \[ x'=P_n(x,y),\quad y'=Q_n(x,y), \] where \(P_n, Q_n\) are polynomials of degree \(n\). They show, for example, that cubic and quartic systems have invariant straight lines along at most six and nine different directions.
