Let \(A\) be a Banach algebra. An element \(a\in A\) is regular if there exists \(b\in A\) such that \(aba=a\) and \(bab=b\). If one demands that \(a\) and \(b\) commute, but the condition \(bab=b\) is replaced by \(a^kba=a^k\) for some positive integer \(k\), then \(a\) is said to be Drazin invertible and \(b\) is its Drazin inverse, usually denoted as \(a^D\). A mapping \(T\) from a Banach algebra \(A\) to a Banach algebra \(B\) strongly preserves Drazin invertibility if \(T(a^D)=T(a)^D\). One of the main results of the paper characterizes additive mappings from a unital Banach algebra \(A\) to a Banach algebra \(B\) which strongly preserve Drazin invertibility as Jordan triple homomorphisms, i.e., mappings satisfying condition \( T(abc+cba)=T(a)T(b)T(c)+T(c)T(b)T(a)\) for arbitrary \(a, b, c\). A part of the second main theorem of the paper says that the linear maps between \(C^\ast\)-algebras which strongly preserve regularity are precisely the triple homomorphisms.
