The aim of this paper is the development of a theory of operator renewal sequences in the context of infinite ergodic theory. In particular, the authors manage to determine the asymptotic behaviour of iterates \(L^n\) of the transfer operator \(L\) for large rates of dynamical systems preserving an infinite measure which gives the possibility of interpretation of examples of systems such as parabolic rational maps on the complex plane and not-necessarily Markovian nonuniformly expanding interval maps with indifferent fixed points. Furthermore the authors give a particularly simple proof of pointwise dual ergodicity for the class of systems under consideration.
