The author studies certain functional equations that are known in the literature as addition theorems. Good models for such examples are the Cauchy functional equations NEWLINE\[NEWLINEf(x+ y)= f(x)+ f(y)\quad\text{and}\quad f(x+ y)= f(x) f(y).NEWLINE\]NEWLINE Equations of these types are special cases of the Levi-Cività equation.NEWLINENEWLINE The paper provides an essential contribution on subadditive set-functions on semigroups. Furthermore, applications to group representations and functional equations are given.
