The packing constant in Orlicz-Lorentz sequence spaces \(\lambda_{\phi,\omega}\) and \(\lambda_{\phi,\omega}^o\) equipped with the Luxemburg norm and the Orlicz norm, respectively, are studied.NEWLINENEWLINE Let \(\omega\) be a positive and non-increasing weight sequence. For a sequence \(x=(x_1,x_2,\dots)\) of real numbers, \(x^*=(x^*_1,x^*_2,\dots)\) denotes the non-increasing rearrangement of \(|x|=(|x_1|,|x_2|,\dots)\). Given an Orlicz function \(\phi\), the modular \(\rho_\phi(x)\) is defined by NEWLINE\[NEWLINE\rho_\phi(x)=\underset{i=1}{\overset{\infty}{\sum}}\phi(x^*(i))\omega_i.NEWLINE\]NEWLINE Denoting by \(\ell^0\) the space of all real sequences, the Orlicz-Lorentz sequence space \(\lambda_{\phi,\omega}\) is defined as the space of those \(x\in\ell^0\) for which \(\rho_\phi(\lambda x)<\infty\) for some \(\lambda>0\). The Luxemburg norm and the Orlicz norm of \(x\in\lambda_{\phi,\omega}\) are defined as NEWLINE\[NEWLINE\begin{aligned} \|x\|&=\inf\{c>0:\rho_\phi\left(\frac{x}{c}\right)\leq 1\},\\ \|x\|_0&=\sup\left\{\underset{n=1}{\overset{\infty}{\sum}}x_i^*y_i^*\omega_i:\rho_\psi(y)\leq 1\right\}, \end{aligned}NEWLINE\]NEWLINE where \(\psi\) is the function complementary to \(\phi\) in the sense of Young.NEWLINENEWLINE The packing constant of a Banach space \(X\) is denoted by \(P(X)\) and defined by the formula NEWLINE\[NEWLINEP(X)=\sup\{r>0:\text{infinitely many balls of radius }r\text{ are packed into }B(X)\}.NEWLINE\]NEWLINE It is well known that NEWLINE\[NEWLINEP(X)=\frac{K(X)}{2+K(X)},NEWLINE\]NEWLINE where \(K(X)\) is the Kottman constant defined by NEWLINE\[NEWLINEK(X)=\sup_{x\in S(X)} \left\{\inf_{n\neq m}\|x^{(n)}-x^{(m)}\|: x^{(n)},\, x^{(m)}\in \mathcal{X}\right\},NEWLINE\]NEWLINE where \({\mathcal{X}}=\left\{x^{(n)}\right\}_{n=1}^\infty\) is a sequence of elements of the unit sphere \(S(X)\) of \(X\). Lower and upper estimates for the Kottman constant (so for the packing constant as well) are given in terms of some parameters (constants) dependent on the generating Orlicz function and\slash or on the generating modular \(\rho_\phi\). This is done for both the Luxemburg and the Orlicz norm.
