Let \(X = \Gamma \backslash \mathbb B_n\) be a non-compact arithmetic ball quotient with a toroidal compactification \(\overline{X}\), with boundary divisor \(D = \overline{X} \setminus X\). Assume that \(\Gamma\) is torsion-free and that the monodromy at infinity is unipotent. The topic of this paper is a comparison between (vanishing of) \(L^2\)-cohomology and (vanishing of) sheaf cohomology. The authors show that when \(X\) has dimension \(2\), then vanishing of \(L^2\)-cohomology is closely related to vanishing of sheaf cohomology groups of the form \(H^0(\overline{X}, S^n\Omega^1_{\overline{X}}(\log D) \otimes \mathcal O_{\overline{X}} \otimes L^{-m})\), where \(L^{\otimes 3} = \mathcal O_{\overline{X}}(K_{\overline{X}} + D)\), \(m \geq n \geq 1\). They also consider the higher-dimensional case and study the mixed Hodge structure on the sheaf cohomology of a local system and the \(L^2\)-cohomology contributing to its lowest weight part. For more precise statements of the results, we refer to the introduction of the paper.
