A bounded function on a group \(G\) is said to be almost periodic if the family of its left translates is relatively compact in the Banach space \(B(G)\) of all bounded functions on \(G\), equipped with the uniform norm topology. In the paper under review the author studies conditions ensuring the continuity of all almost periodic functions on a given group. The first result states that in the case of a connected Lie group, almost periodic functions restrict to continuous functions on the commutator subgroup and that the continuity of every almost periodic function is equivalent to the group being perfect. A function on a connected locally compact group \(G\) is said to be finally continuous if it is uniformly continuous with respect to the translations by the elements of some compact normal subgroup \(N\) such that \(G/N\) is a Lie group. The second result of the article states that if the group is perfect, continuity and final continuity are equivalent for almost periodic functions. This result is claimed to hold for any almost connected locally compact group. The proofs of these theorems rely on a construction, described for instance in \textit{A. Weil}'s classic [L'intégration dans les groupes topologiques et ses applications. Actualités scientifiques et industrielles, No. 869. Paris: Hermann \& Cie. (1940; Zbl 0063.08195)], that associates to every almost periodic function on a group \(G\) a continuous representation of \(G\) into a compact group, and continuity properties of this representation in view of previous work of the author in [Izv. Math. 72, No. 1, 169--205 (2008; Zbl 1158.22002)] and [J. Math. Sci. 159, No. 5, 653--751 (2009; Zbl 1187.22014)]. Finally an example is given, proving that the conditions in the second theorem cannot be relaxed.
