The viscosity approach to complex Monge-Amère equations on compact Kähler manifolds was introduced by \textit{P. Eyssidieux, V. Guedj} and \textit{A. Zeriahi} [Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 64, No. 8, 1059--1094 (2011; Zbl 1227.32042)]. In the present paper it is applied, with some new ingredients, to the Dirichlet problem for continuous solutions of \((dd^c u)^n (z)=f(z,u)\) in domains of \(\mathbb C ^n\). The results include: the comparison principle for viscosity solutions, an estimate of Alexandrov-Bakelman-Pucci type sharpening a little the stability result of \textit{U. Cegrell} and \textit{L. Persson} [Mich. Math. J. 39, No. 1, 145--151 (1992; Zbl 0799.32013)], and equivalence of viscosity and pluripotential solutions for continuous \(f\) independent of \(u\). For \(f\) continuous and non-decreasing in \(u\), the solution of the Dirichlet problem is given under natural (viscosity) boundary assumptions.
