In this note the author studies weakly regular rings. His main theorems are the following. (I) A ring \(R\) is left weakly regular if and only if \(R\) is semiprime and satisfies the following two conditions. (i) The union of any chain of semiprime ideals of \(R\) is again a semiprime ideal of \(R\). (ii) For a left ideal \(L\) of \(R\) and for semiprime ideals \(I,J\) of \(R\), \((L+I)\cap(L+J)=L+(I\cap J)\). (II) If \(R\) is a 2-primal ring and if \(P(R)\) is the prime radical of \(R\) then the factor ring \(R/P(R)\) is left weakly regular if and only if every prime ideal of \(R\) is modular maximal and \(R\) satisfies the condition (ii) of Theorem (I). The author concludes the note with an example of a 2-primal non-reduced ring \(R\) without identity with \(R/P(R)\) left weakly regular and another example of a reduced weakly regular ring without identity. In the proof of the converse of Theorem (I), \(L\) should be taken to be a principal left ideal, otherwise the poset of all semiprime ideals of \(R\) with \(L+M\neq L^2+M\) may not be inductive.
