This is a survey paper discussing several queuing systems studied by the Hungarian mathematician László Lakatos, who first investigated queueing systems with cyclic waiting time. Such systems are directly related to the mathematical models of aircraft landing processes. The study by Lakatos, starting with [Ann. Univ. Sci. Budap. Rolando Eötvös, Sect. Comput. 14, 105--113 (1994; Zbl 0806.60090)], includes a number of papers which are reviewed by the authors of this article. It includes Lakatos' systems \(\mathrm{M}/\mathrm{M}/1\), \mathrm{Geom}/\mathrm{Geom}/1, \(\mathrm{M}/\mathrm{Unif}/1\), and some of their generalizations. The paper is interesting because of the clarification of the method and the description of its possible applications.
