In this short article, the author proves a period relation between \(L\)-values of Artin representations and of their twists by even Dirichlet characters at positive critical integers. Specifically, the following theorem is proved. Theorem: If \(\rho\) is an Artin representation of the finite Galois extension \(K/\mathbb Q\) and \(s=n\) is a positive critical integer for \(\rho\), then, for any even Dirichlet character \(\chi\), the \(L\)-values \(L(n,\rho\otimes\chi)\) and \(L(n,\rho)\) differ by multiplication by \(a\cdot\tau(\chi)^{\mathrm{dim}\rho}\), where \(\tau(\chi)\) is the Gauss sum of \(\chi\) and \(a\) is an element of \(\mathbb Q(\chi,\rho)\), the field generated by the values of \(\chi\) and of the character of \(\rho\). This relation between \(L(n,\rho)\) and \(L(n,\rho\otimes\chi)\) is that expected from \textit{P. Deligne}'s conjecture on the rationality of \(L\)-values [Proc. Symp. Pure Math. 33, No. 2, 313--346 (1979; Zbl 0449.10022)]. Deligne's conjecture for an Artin representation is much like the case of the Riemann zeta function: at negative critical integers the values are rational, whereas a transcendental period appears at positive critical integers. By phrasing his result in terms of a period relation, the author can avoid discussing the transcendental factor of the \(L\)-values in question. At negative critical integers \(n\), \textit{J. Coates} and \textit{S. Lichtenbaum} [Ann. Math. (2) 98, 498--550 (1973; Zbl 0279.12005)] showed that \(L(n,\rho\otimes\chi)\in\mathbb Q(\chi,\rho)\). The author uses Brauer induction and the functional equation for Hecke \(L\)-functions to give a detailed derivation of his period relation starting from this result of Coates-Lichtenbaum. The proof ultimately comes down to a relation between the Gauss sum of \(\chi\) and the Gauss sums of its restrictions to subgroups of \(\mathrm{Gal}(\overline{\mathbb Q}/\mathbb Q)\) (equation (4) of the article under review).
