The authors discuss how to solve nonlinear equations by using iterative methods. An optimally convergent class of efficient three-point three-step methods without memory is suggested. An analytical proof for the class of methods is given to show the eighth-order convergence and also to reveal its consistency with the conjecture of \textit{H. T. Kung} and \textit{J. F. Traub} [J. Assoc. Comput. Mach. 21, 643--651 (1974; Zbl 0289.65023)]. The efficiency of the proposed methods relies in the following points: the optimization in important effecting factors (optimality order), lesser number of functional evaluations, and the viewpoint of the efficiency index. The accuracy of some iterative methods obtained from the proposed derivative-involved scheme is illustrated by solving numerical test problems and by comparing it with the available methods in the literature.
