The strain energy densities of a two-phase elastic medium are defined by \[ F^{\pm}(M)=a^{\pm}_{ijkl}(e(M)-\zeta^{\pm})_{ij}(e(M)-\zeta^{\pm})_{kl} \quad \eqno{(1)} \] where the elasticity modulus tensors \(a^{\pm}_{ijkl}\) are symmetric and positive definite, the residual strain tensors \(\zeta^{\pm}\) are symmetric, and the strain tensor has the form \[ e(M)=\frac{M+M^*}{2}, \quad M\in \mathbb R^{m\times m} \quad\eqno{(2)} \] where \(\mathbb R^{m\times m}\) is the space of \(m\times m\)-matrices. The energy strain functional of a two-phase elastic medium occupying a bounded domain \(\Omega \subset \mathbb R^m\) is defined by \[ I[u,\chi,t]=\int\limits_{\Omega}\{\chi(F^+(\nabla u)+t)+(1-\chi)F^-(\nabla u)\}dx, \; u\in \mathbb{X},\; \chi\in \mathbb{Z} \eqno{(3)} \] where \(\mathbb{X}={W}^{{\circ}1}_2(\Omega, \mathbb R^m)\) is the set of admissible displacement fields and \(\mathbb{Z}\) is the set of admissible phase distributions which coincides with the set of all measurable characteristic functions, \((\nabla u)_{ij}=u^i_{x_j},\; i,j=1,\dots,m,\) and \(t\) is the temperature which is assumed to be constant in \(\Omega\). In the considered problem admissible displacement fields vanish on the boundary of \(\Omega\). By an equilibrium state of a two-phase elastic medium with a fixed temperature \(t\) it means a solution \(\widehat{u}_t,\widehat{\chi}_t\) of the variational problem \[ I[\widehat{u}_t,\widehat{\chi}_t,t]={\inf}_{u\in \mathbb{X},\chi \in \mathbb{Z}}Sb I[u,\chi,t], \quad \widehat{u}_t\in \mathbb{X}, \widehat{\chi}_t\in \mathbb{Z}. \eqno{(4)} \] For the problem (4) in the above setting there are \(t_{\pm}\; (t_{-}\leq t_{+})\) that are independent of the domain \(\Omega\) and for \(t<t_-\) the problem (4) has a unique solution \(\widehat{u}_t=0, \widehat{\chi}_t=\chi^+\), for \(t>t_+\) the problem (4) has a unique solution \(\widehat{u}_t=0,\widehat{\chi}_t=\chi^-\), and for \(t\in (t_-,t_+)\) (in the case \(t_-<t_+\)) the problem (4) has no one-phase solutions. Two-sided estimates for the temperatures \(t_{\pm}\) can be found in [\textit{V. G. Osmolovskii}, Probl. Mat. Anal. 28, 95--104 (2004); translation in J. Math. Sci., New York 122, No. 3, 3278--3289 (2004; Zbl 1099.74025)]. The situation becomes simpler in the case of homogeneous isotropic media \[ a^{\pm}_{ijkl}=\mathfrak{a_{\pm}}{2}(\delta_{ik}\delta_{jl}+\delta_{il}\delta_{jk})+b_{\pm}\delta_{ij}\delta_{kl},\; \zeta^{\pm}_{ij}=c_{\pm}\delta_{ij}, a_{\pm},b_{\pm},c_{\pm}\in \mathbb R^1, a_{\pm}>0, b_{\pm}\geq 0, \eqno{(5)} \] under the additional assumptions \[ a_+=a_-\equiv a \eqno{(6)} \] \[ u(x,\tau), \chi(x,\tau):\quad u(\cdot\tau)\in \mathbb{X}, \chi(\cdot \tau)\in \mathbb{Z}, \tau \geq 0, u(x,0)=\widehat{u}_{t_0}(x), \chi(x,0)=\widehat{\chi}_{t_0}(x) \eqno{(7)} \] The aim of this article is to indicate for the case (6), (7), and \(t_0, t_1 \in (t_-,t_+), t_0\neq t_1\)a class of initial conditions for which the evolution process (5), (7) can be written in an explicit form.
