Let \(E\) be a Banach space, \(P\) a normal cone in \(E\) with normal constant \(K\) and let \(B(P,1)\) be the set of all linear, bounded and positive definite (with respect to \(P\)) operators \(A:E\to E\) such that \(\|A\|\leq1\). Further, let \((X,d)\) be a cone metric space over \(P\), in the sense of \textit{L.-G. Huang} and \textit{X. Zhang} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 332, No. 2, 1468--1476 (2007; Zbl 1118.54022)]. If \(f:X\to X\) is a mapping such that, for some \(\lambda\in(0,1)\) and all \(x,y\in X\), there exist nonnegative real numbers \(a,b,c,d,e\) with \(a+b+c+d+e\leq1\) and operators \(A,B,C,D,E\in B(P,1)\) satisfying \(d(fx,fy)\leq\lambda(aAd(x,y)+bBd(x,fx)+cCd(y,fy)+dDd(x,fy)+eEd(y,fx))\), then the author proves that \(f\) has a unique fixed point in \(X\), provided that one of the following conditions holds: (i) \(f\) is continuous; (ii) \(\lambda K<1\); (iii) there exists \(x_0\in X\) such that \[ \{A(x,y),B(x,y),C(x,y),D(x,y),E(x,y):x,y \text{ belong to the orbit of }x_0\} \] is a compact set. He shows by examples that this result cannot be deduced from its scalar version.
