The paper deals with the normality of singular integral operators of the form \[ S_{\alpha,\beta}=\alpha P + \beta Q \] with coefficients \(\alpha,\beta\in L^\infty(\mathbb{T})\) on the Lebesgue space \(L^2(\mathbb{T})\) over the unit circle \(\mathbb{T}\), where \(P\) is the orthogonal projection of \(L^2(\mathbb{T})\) onto the Hardy space \(H^2(\mathbb{T})\) and \(Q=I-P\) is the complementary projection. Criteria for \(S_{\alpha,\beta}\) to be a self-adjoint operator, a positive operator and a unitary operator are obtained. Several normality criteria for the operator \(S_{\alpha,\beta}\) that are related to the Brown-Halmos theorem are established.
