Let \(A\) be a Banach algebra and let \(X\) be a Banach \(A\)-bimodule. The first author introduced the concept of reflexivity for bounded \(n\)-linear maps in [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 139, No. 1, 163--176 (2011; Zbl 1222.47056)] where he showed that \(\mathcal{Z}^{n}(L^{1}(G),X)\), the space of bounded \(n\)-cocycles from \(L^{1}(G)\) into \(X\), is reflexive when \(G\) is locally compact group with an open subgroup of polynomial growth. In this paper, hyperreflexivity, a strengthening of reflexivity, is defined for cocycles. There are a couple of properties that play a key role in the proofs: the strong property \(\mathbb{B}\) and the existence of bounded local units. After a detailed presentation of all the notions, the authors are able to prove that \(\mathcal{Z}^{n}(A,X)\) is hyperreflexive whenever \(A\) is a Banach algebra such that its unitization has the strong property \(\mathbb{B}\) and \(\mathcal{H}^{n+1}(A,X)\) is a Banach space. A careful study of the stability properties of strong property \(\mathbb{B}\) and of bounded local units allows the authors to show that \(\mathcal{Z}^{n}(A,X)\) is hyperreflexive in various cases; for example, -- when \(A\) is a nuclear \(C^*\)-algebra and \(X\) is a dual Banach \(A\)-bimodule, or -- when \(A=I(H^{\perp}) \vartriangleleft L^{1}(G)\) and \(X\) is a dual Banach \(I(H^{\perp})\)-module. In this case, \(G\) is assumed to be a locally compact amenable group with an open subgroup of polynomial growth and \(H\) is a normal closed subgroup of \(G\).
