Motivated by some model equations derived from water-wave problems, the authors study the general class of singularly perturbed differential equations, \[ \epsilon\eta_{x^*x^*x^*x^*}+\eta_{x^*x^*}-\lambda\eta+\beta\eta^k=\epsilon P\left[\epsilon,\eta,\eta_{x^*},\eta_{x^*x^*},\epsilon^{1/2}\eta_{x^*x^*x^*}\right], \] where \(\epsilon>0\) is a small parameter, and \(P\) is a polynomial with respect to its variables satisfying \[ P\left[\epsilon,\alpha_1,\alpha_2,\alpha_3,\alpha_4\right]=P\left[\epsilon,\alpha_1,-\alpha_2,\alpha_3,-\alpha_4\right], \;P\left[\epsilon,0,0,0,0\right]=0 \] and \(P\) is at most linear in \(\alpha_3\) and \(\alpha_4\) and quadratic in \(\alpha_2.\) The idea to prove the main result on the existence of two-hump solutions for the problem under consideration with \(P\equiv0,\) \(k=2\) and \(\lambda>0\) is based on the transformation of the original problem into a corresponding integro-differential equation and consequently, by patching two solitary-wave solutions at some suitable points, two-hump solution is obtained. The existence of two-hump waves is illustrated by experiment.
