Let \(I\) be a homogeneous ideal in \(R=K[x_0,\dots,x_N]\); the symbolic power \(I^{(m)}\) can be defined as the saturation (with respect to \((x_0,\dots,x_N)\)) of the ideal \(I^m\). It is known that for all ideals \(J\subset R\), \(J^{(m)}\subset J^r\) for all \(r\geq 1\), when \(m\geq rN\). The first author had conjectured that \(I^{(rN-N+1)}\subset I^r\), \(\forall r\geq 1\), when \(I\) is the ideal of a (reduced) set of points in \(\mathbb{P}^N\), trying to generalize a question posed by Huneke (i.e., ``Is \(I^{(2)}\subset I^3\) always true?'') [\textit{B. Harbourne} and \textit{C. Huneke}, J. Ramanujan Math. Soc. 28A, 247--266 (2013; Zbl 1296.13018)]. Two counterexamples to such conjecture for \(K=\mathbb{C}\) were found for \(N=2=r\), with quite special configurations of points. In the case of positive characteristic, other examples are known, and in this paper infinitely many other are found (for infinitely many values of \(r\)) when \(N=2\) and char\(K = p > 0\). Moreover counterexamples are found also for many values of \(r,p\) and \(N>2\). The authors point out that those new examples seem not to be suitable to yield counterexamples for char\(K=0\).
