The theorem referred to in the title is the standard model structure on simplicial sets, with Kan fibrations and weak homotopy equivalences. This theorem, due to Quillen, has been a cornerstone of simplicial homotopy theory [\textit{D. Quillen}, Homotopical algebra. Lecture Notes in Mathematics. 43. Berlin-Heidelberg-New York: Springer-Verlag (1967; Zbl 0168.20903)]. His original proof uses a technical result of Barratt, Gugenheim, and Moore on the classification of fiber bundles in simplicial sets [\textit{M. Barratt} et al., Am. J. Math. 81, 639--657 (1959; Zbl 0127.39002)]. A different proof, provided in [\textit{P. Goerss} and \textit{J.F. Jardine}, Simplicial homotopy theory. Modern Birkhäuser Classics. Basel: Birkhäuser (1999; 2010; Zbl 1195.55001)], uses the comparison of simplicial sets to topological spaces via geometric realization. In the paper under review, the author provides an alternate proof of the model structure, which appeals neither to topological spaces, nor to the classification of fiber bundles in simplicial sets. Instead, the author uses the theory of minimal fibrations, as well as work of Gabriel and Zisman on anodyne extensions [\textit{P. Gabriel} and \textit{M. Zisman}, Calculus of fractions and homotopy theory. Ergebnisse der Mathematik und ihrer Grenzgebiete. Band 35. Berlin-Heidelberg-New York: Springer-Verlag (1967; Zbl 0186.56802)].
