Let \(f\) be a germ of a holomorphic map in \(\mathbb{C}^d\), \(d\geq 2\), which fixes the origin, and \(C\) and \(D\) two germs of holomorphic curves through the origin. The author studies the sequence \(\mu(n):=C\cdot f^n(D)\) of local intersection multiplicities at the origin for \(n\geq 0\). The author first gives an example of a superattracting map in dimension two, and explicitly constructs \(C\) and \(D\) to show that \(\mu(n)\) can grow arbitrarily fast. Then, in arbitrary dimensions it is shown that generically \(\mu(n)\) grows at most exponentially. In dimension two, more precise information on \(\mu(n)\) is obtained with valuative techniques, which were initiated by \textit{C. Favre} and \textit{M. Jonsson} [The valuative tree. Berlin: Springer (2004; Zbl 1064.14024)] and further developed by the author and \textit{M. Ruggiero} [Indiana Univ. Math. J. 63, No. 4, 1195--1234 (2014; Zbl 1304.32011)].
