Let \(D\) be a nonempty closed convex subset of a Hilbert space and \(\{T_i:D\to D\}_{i=1}^m\) \((m\geq 2)\) be a family of nonexpansive mappings, that is, \(\| T_ix-T_iy\|\leq\| x-y\|\) for all \(x,y\in D\). For a mapping \(T:D\to D\), let \(\mathrm{Fix}(T):=\{x\in D:x=Tx\}\). In general there exists no relationship between \(\mathrm{Fix}(\frac{1}{m}\sum_iT_i)\) and \(\mathrm{Fix}(T_m\circ\cdots\circ T_1)\). In this paper, the authors study the asymptotic behaviour of composition of under-relaxed nonexpansive mappings. In particular, when the mappings are projections onto closed convex sets, a conjecture of De Pierro which has so far been established for projections onto affine subspaces is proved.
