The ``uniform piecewise linearizing'' question is the following: If \(f:[0,1] \rightarrow [0,1]\), is there a nondecreasing homeomorphism \(h\) and a linear mod-one transformation \(T\) such that \(h \circ f=T \circ h\)? The authors study this question when \(f\) lies in the set \(\mathcal{L}\) of piecewise linear Lorenz maps with different slopes and positive topological entropy. For \(f \in \mathcal{L}\), their main results are: {\parindent=0.6cm\begin{itemize}\item[1)] \(f\) is either periodic renormalizable or non-renormalizable, depending on whether the rotation interval is degenerated. \item[2)] \(f\) is uniformly piecewise linearizable (in which sense the answer to the uniform piecewise linearizing question is yes). \item[3)] \(h\) is either bi-Lipschitz or completely singular, depending on whether \(f\) is renormalizable. \item[4)] If 0 and 1 are periodic with the same rotation number, then \(h\) is a quasi-symmetric conjugacy. \end{itemize}} The authors point out that the results of the second author [Discrete Contin. Dyn. Syst. 29, No. 3, 979--999 (2011; Zbl 1228.37032)] provide a way to check if \(f\) is renormalizable for 3) of the main results.
