Let \(G\) be a nontrivial compact and connected abelian group with totally ordered character group \(X\) and let \(X_+\) be the positive cone on \(X\). The space \(H^2(G)\) is defined as the subspace of \(L^2(G)\) that consists of functions whose Fourier transform is concentrated on \(X_+\). For a bounded semicharacter \(\lambda:X_+\to{\mathbb C}\), a \(\lambda\)-Toeplitz operator is a bounded linear operator \(T\) on \(H^2(G)\) such that \[ (T(\chi\xi),\chi\eta)=\lambda(\chi)(T\xi,\eta) \] for all \(\chi,\xi\eta\in X_+\). The author also reviews earlier results by Mark C. Ho in the case when \(G\) is the unit circle.
