In this article, the author continues with the study of asymmetric metric spaces started in [Anal. Geom. Metr. Spaces 1, 200--231 (2013; Zbl 1293.53081)]. Some definitions are given, especially the notions of local compactness and completeness are studied and its relations are given. The notion of midpoints, quasi midpoints and convexity are given but without using that the space is intrinsic. The author defines geodesics as length minimizing paths in the class \(\mathcal C_r\) of run-continuous paths. We observe that if the space is compact and strongly separated, then the run-continuous paths are continuous. Finally the author discusses how the newly developed theory impacts the most important results, such as the existence of geodesics and the renowned Hopt-Rinow (or Cohn-Vossen) theorem.
