Recurrent linear operators (Q484239)

The authors study the notion of recurrence and some of its variations (like rigidity and uniform rigidity) for bounded linear operators on Banach spaces. The recurrence of an operator is shown to be equivalent to the density of its set of recurrent vectors. Several properties of recurrent (rigid, uniformly rigid) operators are presented, including some spectral properties. Moreover, connections with some well-known notions in linear dynamics (like hypercyclicity) are also mentioned. Many particular classes of operators are considered, including operators on finite dimensional spaces, unitary operators on Hilbert spaces, and weighted shifts, composition operators and multiplication operators on classical Banach spaces. Finally, some open problems are proposed at the end of the paper.
