The authors study the linear stability of steady-state periodic patterns of localized spots in \(\mathbb{R}^2\) for two-component reaction-diffusion systems. Specifically, they consider the Schnakenberg and Gierer-Meinhardt reaction-diffusion models in the semi-strong interaction regime (when the diffusivity ratio is asymptotically large). The corresponding linearized eigenvalue problem is treated by the method of matched asymptotic expansions.
