On trivialities of Chern classes (Q485019)

Given a \(CW\)-complex, the authors call it \(C\)-trivial (alternatively, \(W\)-trivial) if the total Chern (alternatively, Stiefel-Whitney) class of any complex (alternatively, real) vector bundle over this space is trivial. In the paper under review, they explicitly describe all the cases in which suspensions of stunted real projective spaces, suspensions of stunted complex projective spaces or suspensions of stunted quaternionic projective spaces are \(C\)-trivial. Relations between \(C\)-triviality and \(W\)-triviality are also studied and used in some of the proofs.
