Let \(G\) be a connected reductive group over an algebraically closed field of characteristic \(p\). A spherical variety is a \(G\)-variety with an open orbit for a Borel subgroup \(B\) of \(G\). The rank of a spherical variety \(X\) is the rank of the lattice of weights of \(B\)-semiinvariant rational functions on \(X\). In characteristic zero, the classification of spherical varieties of rank one is due to \textit{D. N. Akhiezer} [Ann. Global Anal. Geom. 1, No. 1, 49--78 (1983; Zbl 0537.14033)], see also [\textit{M. Brion}, CMS Conf. Proc. 10, 31--41 (1989; Zbl 0702.20029)]. Here the author obtains such a classification in arbitrary characteristic. He then proves that, if \(p\neq2\), the so-called valuation cone of a spherical variety \(X\) is the fundamental domain of a finite reflection group, called little Weyl group of \(X\), generalizing a well-known result of \textit{M. Brion} [J. Algebra 134, No. 1, 115--143 (1990; Zbl 0729.14038)] in characteristic zero. If \(p=2\), this is no longer true, but it is proved that the group generated by the reflections with respect to the facets of the valuation cone is still finite.
