In the paper under review the authors construct certain faithful representations of locally convex nilpotent Lie algebras by nilpotent operators on a locally convex space (and for the corresponding locally convex Lie groups by unipotent operators). In the special case of nilpotent Banach-Lie algebras these are norm continuous representations by bounded operators on Banach spaces. This provides an affirmative answer to a question by K.-H.~Neeb on a suitable version of Birkhoff's embedding theorem for the infinite dimensional case.
