On closed subgroups of the group of homeomorphisms of a manifold (Q487725)

Let \(M\) be a compact, connected, triangulable topological manifold without boundary of dimension at least 2 equipped with a probability measure \(\mu\) such that finite sets have measure 0 while non-empty open sets have positive measure. Let \(\mathcal H_0(M)\), equipped with the topology of uniform convergence, be the group of homeomorphisms of \(M\) isotopic to the identity and \(\mathcal H_0(M,\mu)\) the subgroup preserving \(\mu\). Then \(\mathcal H_0(M,\mu)\) is maximal amongst the closed subgroups of \(\mathcal H_0(M)\).
