Given a planar compact set \(C\) and a partition \(P\) of \(C\) in connected subsets of equal areas, the notion of maximum relative diameter of \(P\) is defined as the maximum diameter among such members of \(P\). This notion was introduced and studied for bisections [\textit{C. Miori} et al., J. Math. Anal. Appl. 300, No. 2, 464--476 (2004; Zbl 1080.52002)], and the authors extend now the research to \textit{trisections} of a planar convex body \(C\), namely, to partitions of \(C\) into three connected subsets of equal area given by three curves leaving from an interior point of \(C\) and meeting the boundary of \(C\). They present a type of trisection for 3-rotationally symmetric planar convex bodies, and prove that it minimizes the maximum relative diameter for such as convex bodies. This suitable trisection is implemented to a set made by an intersection of an equilateral triangle and a circle in order to obtain an optimal value for the maximum relative diameter in the class of 3-rotationally symmetric planar convex bodies of unit area. Besides, the same type of trisection is optimal for general 3-partitions of equal areas of \(C\).
