The paper is devoted to metric analogues of some results of the theory of factorization of operators between Banach spaces. This line of research was initiated by the paper of \textit{J. D. Farmer} and \textit{W. B. Johnson} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 137, No. 9, 2989--2995 (2009; Zbl 1183.46020)]. The author achieves further significant progress in this direction. The main results are: (1) A nonlinear version (Theorem 3.3) of the following theorem (Theorem 2.4 in [\textit{G. Pisier}, Reg. Conf. Ser. Math. 60 (1986; Zbl 0588.46010)]): Let \(X,Y\) be Banach spaces. Then an operator \(u:X\to Y\) factors through a Hilbert space iff there is a constant \(C\) with the following property: For all sequences \(\{x_j\}_{j\leq n}\) and \(\{y_i\}_{i\leq m}\) in \(X\) satisfying that, for all \(\xi\in X^*\), \(\sum|\xi(y_i)|^2\leq \sum|\xi(x_j)|^2\), the condition \(\sum||uy_i||^2\leq C^2\sum||x_j||^2\) holds. (2) A duality result for Lipschitz maps (Theorem 4.5). In both cases one of the difficulties was to find the right statement in the nonlinear setting, a priori it was not even clear that they exist. {Remark of the reviewer:} Pisier [loc.\,cit., p.\,30] attributes Theorem 2.4 to Lindenstrauss and Pełczyński, apparently because a version of it can be derived from Proposition 5.2 in [\textit{J. Lindenstrauss} and \textit{A. Pełczyński}, Stud. Math. 29, 275--326 (1968; Zbl 0183.40501)]. The author of the present paper attributes the result to \textit{S. Kwapien}, apparently because it can be derived from a suitable modification of Theorem 2 in [Bull. Soc. Math. Fr., Suppl., Mém. 31--32, 215--225 (1972; Zbl 0246.47040)].
