Inspired by the works of \textit{M. A. Tsfasman} and \textit{S. G. Vladut} [Mosc. Math. J. 2, No. 2, 329--402 (2002; Zbl 1004.11037); J. Math. Sci., New York 84, No. 5, 1445--1467 (1997; Zbl 0919.11045)] on an analogue of the Brauer-Siegel theorem for number fields of infinite degree over \(\mathbb{Q}\), the author defines certain sequences of rational functions and proves a few simple theorems about those sequences. He then shows that some of his sequences arise as sequences of zeta-functions of algebraic varieties defined over a finite field or as sequences of \(L\)-functions of elliptic curves defined over the function field \(\mathbb{F}(X)\) of an algebraic variety \(X\) over a finite field \(\mathbb{F}\). The author states several conjectures and poses numerous open questions.
